Whitney Houston is one of my favorite R&B artists from the 80s and 90s.

This album contains her greatest hits from that time period. It's a two disc set that contains both regular versions of her songs and remix versions.

If you enjoy a lot of divas, I recommend it.

This CD is too bad to write a review because when I received the package there was no CD 2 in it and I have to buy another to to avoid hassle in sending back for replacement.

This CD contains most of all the songs I love by the great sounding voice of Whitney Houston. If you love her voice and her music, I recommend this CD.

I liked that there were 2 CDs - one to dance to and one to relax to. I listen to the dancing one more, but both are very good. Let's not forget, this is Whitney!

Wow Whitney sounds so great on this CD, it really is one of my favorite Christmas CD's of all time!!! Just wish she had more songs on the CD :)It was deff. worth buying!

I bought this album in spite of the lukewarm reviews. I was not disappointed, however, Whitney's voice certainly struggled a lot on the high notes. This is not classic Whitney (talentwise), "Saving All My Love for You", "The Bodyguard" soundtrack, etc...Whitney of the 80's/very early 90's or when she made everyone cry when she sang "The National Anthem" at the Superbowl...way back when. But if you love Whitney the artist then you can overlook her career setbacks and appreciate this album which I did.

Firstly, I love Ms. Whit Whit. But this CD is just borders between bad & OK. None of the songs she sung were great. She completely OVER SINGS. Holding notes way to long. I don't need you to take me through the entire octave - minus the really high notes, just to belt out one word. I also don't need you to hold one note for 5 hours.

It's extremely R&B/Gospel which is NOT bad but I've always believed that Whitney has a pop voice. My favorite Christmas CD's are Temptations, Yolanda Adams & Ms. Patti. But Whitney just can't do that style very well. So, all this soulful, holding notes for 15 minutes, with a raspy voice ruined some of these classics for me. You can tell her voice HAS changed and that she's a smoker, former drug addict and current alcoholic. Sounds harsh but when you listen to this CD, you'll understand. All the rave reviews must be coming from family, friends and die hard Whitney fans. If you want Classic Whitney, this ain't it.

Just be prepared to want to return this CD.

Whitney may have some personnal issues but her voice is still in tact! She has added a twist to every song and it works only for her. This is a wonderful Cd to have on while entertaining for the holidays or just relaxing by yourself. She captures the holiday spirit in every song thaty only she can do!

The music for the Preachers Wife with Whitney Houston was very good.It takes your mind back to the movie as it should,some time when you buy sound tracks to movies they do not co-inside with each other.That is not the case with this sound track.

I am not a big fan of Gospel music, the only reason for purchasing this album is for the Whitney Houston tracks. I was a fan of the songs "I Believe In You & Me" and "Step By Step". I didn't care for the movie, but the soundtrack wasn't all that bad. Whitney does sing the Christmas songs great. She should of released her own Christmas album, following this album. But she waited years later and that might be a reason why it flopped. Hopefully Whitney can get back to her roots and continue to sing with her beautiful voice.

I listen to thos soundtrack and it is amazing. This is the gospel side of Whitney Houston and it is beautiful, so enjoy if you would like to hear Whitney at her best

I think that Whitney's musical performances in THE PREACHER'S WIFE are among the very best of her career. Most people have never heard her sing gospel unless they caught her and her mother, Cissy, singing on different music award shows (where they blow everyone away!) I think that MUCH of the material on her albums is soulless mush and power ballads that don't give her the opportunity to sing with real conviction. This soundtrack is an exception. It really let's us hear just what Whitney is capable of when given music that is as special as her gift. And that's true with the gospel numbers and ESPECIALLY on "I Believe in You and Me" - a beautifully written song performed with grace and maturity.
Another example of what Whitney can do when given great material appears on an album dedicated to songs written by Curtis Mayfield; again, her instincts are right on target and she does a phenomenal job. Maybe she needs to get rid of Clive - get a mentor/producer/whatever who will bring better material to Whitney and allow that incredible voice to soar.

Even tho I loved the movie, I was rather disappointed in the CD, as it is not what I would call a Sountrack. There are a few songs I don't recall from the movie, and the ones that she sang on the CD, were not as they were in the move. For example---Who would imagine a King---She sang this with the Childrens choir in the movie, and alone on the CD. She sang about three or four songs with the adult choir, and only heard them once on the CD and that was at the end. For a soundtrack, I would not recommend it. It should have just been called a Christmas Album.

Whitney Houstons music has been in my life from the 80's all the way through. I was married to a song called One Moment In Time. Whitney had so many hits and great songs, a few that have touched my heart is : I Have Nothing and I Will Always Love You also One Moment In Time.

This cd was in great condition and arrived to me on time. I am enjoying it very much. It has proven to be everything I expected it to be.

This soundtakc blew everyone away. I wwas in awe of it. I loved the music and movie. Music has been an essential for films, but she made everything her own. I cannot wait until April comes when her new album comes out. God bless you Whitney, and remember you can always count on us when you need a hand.

The film Bodyguard blew all expectations when it was released in 1992 and became the 7th top grossing film of that year. Whitney Houston played a pop singer, not too diffrent from herself that was thretened and needed protection from a bodyguard (Kevin Costner) who was at the peak of his career at the time. And one thing lead to another in typical hollywood manner. But what was even more interesting was that Whitney Houston also made a few songs for the sountrack that triggered more interest for the film itself. Soundtrack to blockbuster films is fairly common but for Whitney to both star in the film and make the soundtrack was not and it couldn't have been better suited. Whitney's took Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" to new heights when she made it a soul ballad and showing the best of her voice. She scored one of the biggest hits of all time when it sold 10 million copies and peaking at #1 on the billboard charts for 14 weeks. It would later become her signature song and the best selling single ever by a female artist. And the Bodyguard album won an grammy for best album of the year after spending 20 weeks at #1 and selling 15 million copies. Absolutely amazing. But that wasn't all, another powerballad "I Have Nothing" reached #4, a remake of Chaka Khan's "I'm Every Woman" aswell. Two other singles were released with minor success, ballad "Run To You" and "Queen of the Night" that sounds like a remake of En Vogue's "Free Your Mind". Whitney closed it with a non-single, ballad "Jesus Loves Me". After 5 singles released from the soundtrack you could think this was an official Whitney album, but it isn't. Infact, she only make up about half of the songs. The rest are the typical soundtrack songs like a dull Kenny G/Aaron Neville number, an orchestral theme song from Alan Silvestri and plenty of dated pop & dance from Lisa Stansfield, Curtis Stigers and Joe Cocker and a useless dance cover of Bill Wither's "Lovely Day". As good as Whiteny Hoston's part was the album loses focus at the second part and end up being more like the typical soundtrack album then a Whitney Houston album. This is a shame, cause if the record company had decided to let Whitney record all of the songs It would have been a classic by now. Instead it's more memorable for certain songs then as a whole and as good as it sold it proved that good sountrack will not only increase the interest for a film but also for the soundtrack. Purchase this album, if you love Whitney or the film but otherwise the soundtrack isn't as good (as a whole) as the number of copies it sold.

This CD has all of Whitney's popular songs that made her famous. There's not one song here that is not worth listening to. All of the songs on this CD is quality made. This is definitely one of my favorite CDs. Well worth the buy.

The ONLY reason I bought this CD, as I already have ALL of Whitney Houston's better albums on CD, was for the remastering of "How Will I Know", the GREATEST POP SONG............EVER!!!!! However, after giving the full CD a listen, I was more than happy to have the entire CD. All of her great songs from back in the 80's and early 90's are included here and, there are no stupid remixes that take away from the song itself. The only exception to that rule is "I'm Your Baby Tonight" which, I believe, is a bit different from the original. Trust me, you won't be disappointed with the newer mix, it's EXCELLENT, much better than the original version. So, if you're like many people who have her Double-Disc Greatest Hits CD that included the AWFUL remixes which RUINED the songs, pick this up. The songs are crisp, clear, and filled with the energy and that amazing voice which has made Whitney Houston one of the greatest singers of ALL TIME.

Finally! Whitney Houston decides to release an Ulitmate Collection of her greatest hit songs. I know she released her Greatest Hits package back in 2000, but we all know that was tragic. With all the remixes of her great songs. Now with this collection, it has all the original songs and all are remastered. Who can ever forget this woman, with her amazing voice. I've been there with her from the start with 1985's "You Give Good Love". Now the last 2 albums she has released "Just Whitney" and "One Wish", were not up to her standards. I am glad she did not include any tracks from those albums on this collection. The only flaw I have to this album is that it is missing a few Ultimate Hits, like "You Give Good Love" #3 hit,"All The Man I Need" #1 hit,"Miracle" #9 hit,"Heartbreak Hotel" #2 hit,"Love Will Save The Day" #9 hit,"My Name Is Not Susan" #20 hit,"I Believe In You & Me" #4 hit,"Step By Step" #15 hit,and "Count On Me" #8 hit. Besides those songs missing, this is an Ultimate collection by the one and only Whitney Houston. I recommend this album to you!

Whitney came out BIG! "Whitney Houston" was best selling album in the U.S. of 1986. Three singles became No.1-Hits (still rare coming from one album). She received Grammy nomination for "Album of the Year". And she won for the touching performance "Saving All My Love for You" (one of the best singles about "the other woman"). The singles were well picked as they show the amazing range Whitney had. She's known for ballads but the interesting thing is songs like "How Will I Know" (cheesy 80s pop at its most fun) showed she could other things. My favorite song on the album is "You Give Good Love". I just love the opening! It's a R&B groove that gave mainstream audiences a first listen to her wonderful voice. I almost forgot "Greatest Love of All" (originally sung by the amazing George Benson). I don't care if it seems cliché; I think the lyrics are empowering and still relevant. The production does age it (I've never heard the version with the piano rather than the keyboard) but it's still a lovely song.

I have been anxious to listen to Whitney Houston's debut album for a long time; I am so happy I finally got around to listening to it because I enjoyed it from start to finish. Here you will find the pop sound, the R&B, and a woman with a voice that is unmatched to this day. No, not even Patti LaBelle or Minnie Riperton compare. Whitney's voice hadn't completely matured on this album. You will find her vocals at their most mature on her biggest song to date, "I Will Always Love You." But, she still sounds wonderful, almost angelic, on each and every song. The production has that 80s sound to it, and this album is going to sound dated to some, but the quality of this album is simply undeniable.

Houston's first single is one of my all-time favorite songs by her and it is called "You Give Good Love." Everything about that song is superb, especially Houston's amazing delivery. To steal a line from that song, her voice is "never too much, will never be." The people of the world obviously think that "The Greatest Love of All" is this album's finest jewel because it is always sung at graduations, church services and commencements. "The Greatest Love of All" is lyrically the best song on this album because of the inspirational lines she sings just for the children. "Thinking About You" and "Take Good Care of My Heart" are good offerings, but they sort of fall short when comparing them to the rest of this album. "How Will I Know" was offered to Janet Jackson first, but she turned it down. Houston took the song and made it all her own; you would never know that this song was written for someone else. This song is kind of cheesy and very sappy, but it is definitely a guilty pleasure. It has that 80s "American Bandstand" feel to it. "Saving All My Love for You" is another one of her most definitive songs. It is an R&B classic.

When I say that this album is essential for music lovers, I mean every word. With this album, you will be taken on a journey to the mid 1980s and you will be enthralled from beginning to end. A classic. 4 shining stars.

This album came out when I was just a baby. I remember it vividly. I love all her songs, but the greatest love of all brings tears to my eyes and I still love the song. She was just 21 when it was released. This cappulated her to where she is today.

Fans who want to remembrt What potential Ms. Houston had the CD will refresh your memory! Soulful and upbeat without being peppy, Whitney's voic is in full force. Enjpy!

I loved the album, and still do. I exercise to it and always listen to it. This was a great album and capputlated to her as a superstar. Great songs, great moves and best of all, one of the greatest singers of all time.

I have always been a Whitney fan. This by far is my favorite ablum. There maybe one or two songs on this one I don't like but otherwise, I love it.

This is the Whtiney that I fell in love with. Carefree, beautiful, happy and very talented!! "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" has gotta be the song of the eighties. Are you old enough to remember when this song was on the radio every hour and every day? "So Emotional" is a close second favorite track of mine. But everything on this CD is so perfect. I hope Whitney can regain some of this success in the future.

...then you will not feel any differently about this sophomore title. This was Whitney Houston's second album with the Arista label. Her self-titled debut album from 1985 was quite a hot seller, and her 1987 title was pretty much the same. The songs I like on this album are: I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me), Just the Lonely Talking Again, Where You Are, You're Still My Man, So Emotional, and Where Do Broken Hearts Go. The first song I mentioned is a real effervescent jammer, with R&B, soul, and a bit of a rock touch combined together. The second track is mellow and listenable. Where You Are is about Whitney wanting to be with her loved one at the same place instead of being away. You're Still My Man is another great one, where she sings that she loves her man so much that he belongs in her life and that nothing will change that. Where do Broken Hearts Go is yet another great song, but kind of sad. If I'm not mistaken, this song is about when a person runs away, will they ever find their way back home or not. One song that I wish was on this album is Moment of Truth, which was the flip side to her I Wanna Dance With Somebody... That song was okay--maybe it will be released sometime later on, even though it was not released on this album. This album belongs in your music collection. The sound quality is not bad at all.

I have been a big fan of her for over 23 years now. I have been a number 1 fan since I was 6 months old. Now, I am 23 years old and her music still inspires me. This was a great album filled with classic rhythm and blues and today's r&b infused with hip hop.

I have been listening to Whitney Houston since I was a girl in the 80s, and I am very familiar with her career. Out of all the albums I have owned, this is her best work! Many of the song versions on this album are impossible to find from other sources (such as the Walmart mp3 store and itunes). So if you want her best, buy this one!

It's no classic but it's good enough.

I like the beat to Oh Yes and have grown to like the song. Until You Come Back, written by Babyface himself is also notable. I Was Made To Love Him is good too. It's a very bouncy track. I don't care too much for You'll Never Stand Alone though.

3.8 stars. Good CD but I'm sure that one of her earlier releases is better. But if you enjoy R&B, then I fully recommend this CD.

I remember buying this cd back in 1998 and as soon as I finished listening to the whole album, I had to admit that I wasn't entirely pleased with this production. I was trying to figure out whether it was the new type of music or the way it was recorded or even worst, her voice. I realized that it was everything that I just mentioned. Although I loved Whitney since the very beginning and always will, this cd seemed to be the beginning of the worst for her. Whitney's voice on this cd sounds very strained and tired as if she had been singing non stop for days. There used to be such a milky, smooth sound to her voice and the way she could tell a story in a song just by the emotion in her sound but this album lacks much of that. The cd seemed very rushed too, from the sound to even the inside jacket, which is disappointing coming from such a high roller such as Whitney. She does try to put that same feeling into her songs like before but it only comes off as being very scratchy and even hoarsed at times. She certainly doesn't hit the high octaves like she used to and instead seems to be holding back from doing so, probably since her vocal cords couldn't handle it. I remember seeing her concert in Atlantic City just before this cd came out and she was terribly hoarsed and blamed it on doing many non-stop weeks of recording for the cd, but we all know that its more than just the recording thats causing the problem which I dont need to mention. The album has it highlights in a few songs like When You Believe, If I Told You That and You'll Never Stand Alone. Other songs like I Learned From The Best and especially I Bow Out, you can really tell she's pushing herself to get the notes out. I know she still has the potential for example when she sings Could I Have This Kiss Forever, it kinda took me back a little to the old Whitney. I really hope with her next album coming out soon in 2006 or 07, she really has it together and give us back that magic she once had in her voice.

Whitney Houston does it again!!! This album is amazing and this album is way diffirent then her past albums. Not really any slow love songs but it's ok! This album oddly peaked at #13 on the charts but was certified 4x platinum in the US alone and sold over 13 million worldwide.

My favorite track on the album is no other than Heartbreak Hotel. The song is just a great track and I remember when it was outplayed on the radio. Now I wish Whitney would come up with something like this. Make sure you pick up a copy of this album!

I remember hearing the songs from this album when I was in junior high school. They are still enjoyable. Her voice is golden. This is a different Whitney from her two preceding albums. She is more than just ballads. Her song "Lover for Life" is an underrated classic. "I Belong to You" is good too.

I loved the album and especially Miracle. can you hear her sing on it? The vocal records are extremely rich and beautiful.

It is hard to believe that it is approaching the 20-year mark since this CD was released. My, oh my, how time changes things. Back then, Whitney was at the top of her game: gorgeous face, incredible voice, and a life of endless luxury and happiness. But now, Whitney is a mere shell of her former self. Nearly 20 years in a stormy relationship, add to that her drug addiction and overall instability, and what we now have is just plain sad. I loved Whitney back in 1990, and I am so sad for her now. So sad for what should have been, but apparently was never meant to be. Hopefully, one day Whitney will come back to the real world, admit how she majorly screwed up with her life, and try to pick herself up again and move forward...reclaiming the glory that I am sure is still waiting for her.

I'm Your Baby Tonight was Whitney Houston's 3rd album with Arista. It was released in 1990 and contains some great songs on it. Why is this title discontinued? What is the reason for it to not be available anymore? That is what's peculiar here. Whatever the reason as to why this title is not available anymore is anyone's guess. It doesn't make any sense to me as to why this title is discontinued. There are some songs on this title that I like. The title track, My Name is Not Susan, Anymore, Miracle, All the Man That I Need, After We Make Love, and I'm Knockin' are the song titles on this album that I like. The front cover picture of Whitney sitting on the seat of the motorcycle is a great one. To the folks at Arista: Please reissue this title back to fans of Whitney's so that they will have a chance to enjoy it again. Whitney fans: Until this album is reissued, you'll just have to bear with getting it used.

This album was released in 1990 and was Whitney's third album. It didn't quite match the expectations of her previous two, although five singles were released and were all top 20 and the album a third place on the album charts. Some would go as far as calling it a lackluster but I'm ready to disagree. It did eventually sell 4 million copies and a few of the songs here are very good. Compared to her first two, "I'm Your Baby Tonight" is miles after though. The producer list is impressive, L.A Reid and Babyface, Stevie Wonder, Narada Michael Walden wrote a whole lot of songs, Luther Vandross produced and appear on backround vocals also. Walter Affansieff on keyboards. He would later write loads of songs for Mariah Carey! and Kenny G on saxophone. What could go wrong?

At the time of this release Whitney just had massive success and had been mentioned in the same lines as Janet Jackson and Madonna. This album had something missing perhaps, there was no uptempo dance song like "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" from her last album and neither did it have the same variety as the latter. This follows the same path more or less with it's 11 songs. Many power ballads, some midtempo soul and then a few hip hopish pop songs but it still lacked the songs for a megastar Whitney had become. Although it's far from a bad album. Many of the songs, the singles in particular are very strong. Let's take a look.

Babyface/Reid wrote the first song, title track, midtempo "I'm Your Baby Tonight" a song about a woman that will do anything for her man. It reached #1 on the billboard charts in 1990. Perhaps the best song of this album. "My Name Is Not Susan" only reached #20 and was a chart dissapointing. It sound a little like Janet Jackson's songs at the same time. It's an uptempo where her boyfriend calls her Susan and mistake her for his ex. Perhaps more famous when Salt N Pepa sampled it for "What a Man". Kenny G helped her out on "All the Man That I Need" which also reahed #1 on the charts. This was a Sister Sledge cover, but Houston's version is top class. "Lover For Life" is forgettable even if Whitney's vocal range is always good. "Anymore" and "Miracle" were both Reid/Babyface songs, the first a midtempo the latter a ballad about abortion, although the video didn't prove that!. It reached a 9th position on the charts. Narada Michael Walden's "I Belong To You" didn't make the pop charts in US and not the top 40 in Uk either. However, this midtempo is pretty good, although it lacks a good hook it's a catchy song nonethless. "Who Do You Love" co-written by Luther is perhaps the closest you get to uptempo-pop here. Sounds a lot like Janet Jackson again. ""We Didn't Know" written by Stevie Wonder and also a duet. Interesting song, but never released as single. "After We Make Love" is adult contemporary, and forgettable. Closer is called "I'm Knockin" and is a jazzy Hip Hopish typical early 90's song. But nothing special either.

Overall, This is a grower. Few songs are that well known, but the album is defenitely not worse then anything else in 1990 even if it's weaker then her first two album. Not so strange since they both were phenomenal!. However, this album got it's moments, it's not perfect but it's defenitely worth the price. But don't start here, start with here first two albums "Whitney Houston" and "Whitney". 4 stars.

One word... gorgeous! No really, i never heard such a voice singing The Star Spangled Banner!

This interpretation surpasses all others I have heard..not merely because of Whitney Houston's passionate rendition..but also because of the brilliant orchestration by John Clayton Jnr and the Florida Orchestra. Recording quality was patchy, but excusable at this outdoor venue.
One quibble: the disc cover states that the anthem music was
'public domain' suggesting it was from some unidentified folk
source. Actuially (and ironically) it was composed by an
Englishman, John Stafford Smith....1750-1836 and was originally titled Anacreon In Heaven (Source: The Oxford Companion \to Music).

No one ever sung this song like that and it is so good and is perfect.

i have always loved whitney from the first time i saw her on the merv griffth show back in 83'. from that prefomace, it was evident that Whitney was destined to be a mega star.this preformance of the star spangled banner is incomprable. i have never hered the anthem sound so powerful and meaningful. when she sings she truly captivates the listiner. i truly hope that now whitney has overcome her troubles and can once again reclaim her rightfull place in music history along side aretha frankin as one of the best singers ever.

They've never really listened to the words. Listen to Sandi Patty's version and...just listen.... to the words about our country, not about pop stars getting tv time.
